A Break in the Pattern

Seeing as how I've reached max 'gear level' in Terraria - not to mention that my last two posts have been almost exclusively about the game - I decided to take a brief break from that wonderful 2D world to pick up a game I'd been neglecting in exchange for monster killing, gear looting, cave exploring goodness.

I played Team Fortress 2 on and off throughout the day, with breaks in between for walks through the snow machine trails that snake behind my house. They're great for pleasant walks or light running (they're surprisingly flat) on decent days, and it's always nice to take small breaks from gaming when it's as beautiful as it was yesterday.

Speaking of running, most of my playtime yesterday consisted of me taking on the role of the Scout. For those of you who don't know or play TF2, the Scout is a class focused on speed and mobility over direct power - though his scattergun does a lot of damage if you can get in close enough to use it. That's where the speed and mobility comes in. You can take routes that other classes can't, and run so quickly across firing lines that it's hard for your adversaries to actually hit you. On top of this, your primary goal (at least on capture the flag maps, which I was playing) is to work with your team to capture the intelligence. Your increased speed and ability to double jump can get you away cleanly where other classes would just get blown to smithereens.

"Oh that's beautiful."

In other news, the Rapture has come and gone in a lot of the world and it looks like nobody has ascended. Go figure...and here I was hoping that we were going to have some kind of Jesus-raised zombies walking about. Oh well, can't win them all.

More Terraria and a little random thought.

I swear, this game owns my life for the time being. Even with most of the max-level gear, I'm still having an absolute blast playing with my friends on multiplayer. It's also a lot of fun to help friends who are just starting by scouting their mines for them, or helping defend them while they work to build their first shelter (a lot of people seem to be waiting too long to do this. Zombies and Demon Eyes will swarm you at night without a home!) Also, seeing as how I forgot to embed the trailer yesterday, have a peek at this:

On a different note, I kinked my neck trying to get my cat out from under my desk. It's most unpleasant, but the effort was worth it - it kept him from stepping on my power bar for the third time in a week. Somehow, his paws always seem to find the 'off' switch. Lastly, I've been thinking of picking up the game 'Universe Sandbox'. The whole creation and destruction in SPACE (spaaaaaaace! I'm in space.) seems like it would be a lot of fun. Does anyone have this game, and do you have any opinions on it? Let me know! :)

PS. It's worth noting that Terraria is, for the moment ONLY available on Steam. Whether or not they plan to release it elsewhere, I have no idea - I think they should, though. It would open up to a slightly broader audience. Not everyone likes Steam.

Terraria

It recently occurred to me just how many hours I've put into Terraria. For a game that just came out a few days ago, the fact that I already have 41 hours in it seems pretty sad.

Oh well, I'll attribute it to the fact that it's absolutely fantastic. I've got most everything I could ever need in the game, including high-end armour and the illustrious flamarang. By the way, for those of you that don't know what I'm talking about, Terraria is an indie game that was recently released on Steam for around $10. I'd suggest picking it up after checking it out at www.terraria.org.

In other news, summer is coming around again. I'm both excited and a little put off by this - I love being outside in the summer, but the heat that comes with it can be pretty unbearable after sitting in such low temperatures during the fall and winter months. The adjusting period is a little harsh for me. Plus, living in the city means no source of refreshing swimming water except backyard or public pools, both of which never match the pure awesome of a lake.

Anyway, that's all from me this morning. It's nearly 1:30 and I'm exhausted.
